WW2 Desert Encounter
18th of December : Night 4
Well we concluded the battle, and the Italians had the field. The allies just didn't have any anti tank capability left and the small clumps of Infantry were getting cut down piece meal. The village was just about solely occupied by the Italians, just a couple of heavily pinned SAS men trying to hang on.
This has been a real eye opener, I have to admit I thought the period may well be dull with little or no play in it ; But how wrong I was, the Bolt Action supplement has brought some great flavor to the period and we are all sure that to play specific selectors ensuring appropriate Armour is deployed will add even more.
Another game is planned for early in the new year
11th of December : Night 3
Well what an evenings gaming. To start of we had our first strafing run from the Italians, not much flak on the table for the allies but the Italian 88 had to test to suppress it's fire and guess what, yep, it failed and for the first time in the game hit something ; It's own plane twice ! However this didn't stop the attack which ripped apart a full British unit ... Devastating.
Next up the French tried to call in the bombardment, they did it but it only threw a few pins so not so good.
Then we rolled for the smoke, and the wind blew threw and it all disappeared, revealing units in the open across the board.
The first 4 actions all went to the Italians, they took full advantage taking out all the French vehicles with any anti tank capability. The end of the turn saw the Italians having destroyed 3 more units so far in the game so they had all the next turn with units on +2 for morale, and a gain they took full advantage. The SAS unit which had nipped int the village and seemed to have secured suddenly got rocked taking pins and hits from all sides.
As it stands, it looks bleak for the British and French, next week will decide the final outcome.
4th of December : Night 2
All action ; The French on the allied right have literally tried to carpet the entire area with smoke to cover their flank and over near the village the SAS have got a toe hold but there is a pretty large portion of Italians rolling up. No - one can hit a barn door at the moment, but are all enjoying the varied rules within the period. The Italian 88 has suffered from the heat haze at long range missing at every opportunity but now stuff is moving into closer range that may change.
27th of November L: Night 1
The first run out for our new, and increasing, desert forces. A great start to the 'period' with lots of rules/amendments from the Dual in the Sun book to give the Cobs treatment to.
Just set up and 2 turns played, but lots to talk about and all progressing well
