WSS : A little Dance
May the 7th 2019
We started a little 'What if' WSS game.
4 Randomly generated forces gave us ; Mick with 4 foot brigades and 1 Cavalry Brigade allied to Howard with 3 foot brigades and 2 cavalry brigades. These faced of against Dave & Phil who both drew 2 foot brigades and 3 cavalry brigades each.
Mick and Howard were set up to the South nearest the village.
5 Turns in, and it's not looking good for Dave & Phil. Taking heavy casualties they are almost a third of the way to a withdrawal check. The culprit's being Mick's guns which have been devastating and Howard's fine volleys. Along with the dice god who has totally deserted my movement roles and Phil's combat roles.
Plenty left to play for as the French northern cavalry are massing for a push into Howards dismounted dragoons and the final round of a critical cavalry melee on the eastern flank.
May the 14th 2019 : Night 2
Well it all got worse for Dave & Phil ; Having positioned the central cavalry to charge the dragoons the impossible happened and we got zero movement. this just left them stood to be blown apart with volley fire. On the far flank Phil just continued to loose melees left right and center.
On turn 9 a withdrawal check was needed, just the 3 dice accrued (In the main due to captured flags) and requiring less than 12 it was achieved.
We halted proceedings, with 3 turns left next week - But the Northern force will need to tread careful to avoid defeat.
May the 21st : Night 3
Humiliation ! The northern franco force simply threw in the towel. We had 3 turns left to end the battle and it was a case of could ave & Phil pull it out of the fire. Plans were made on how best to avoid a heavy withdrawal check, retire and protect. Again, horror as both roled zero orders/movement which left Mick and Howard free to push the outcome.
But the withdrawal check was again on 3 dice, with the 1' & 2' being rolled easy - Result was a 6 - 6 - 5 and a complete failure to the whooping of the southern force.
A great game, even in defeat another corker.
