WSS - Imaginations
6th of Nov : Night 1
A randomly generated all French WSS encounter.
Phil (4 cav brigades and 1 inf Brigade, teamed up with Mick (3 cav brigades and 2 inf brigades) to play Howard (3 cav brigades and 2 inf brigades) and myself (2 cav brigades and 4 inf brigades) on the extended 12ft table. We are playing against the withdrawal factors, but as of yet no real advantage to either side. Of note the Phil has ridden down an artillery battery, Mick gave a seeing to one of Dave's Royal cavalry regiments, but his Swiss guard have got to the town first and Howard's cavalry have got stuck in.
More next week ...
13th of November
The game continues, for Dave and Howard a nightmare to even get new orders for troops. With 3 zero orders in 5 turns. This allowed the forces of Phil and Mick to maneuver and charge without threat but it didn't all work out. Dave's guard in the village have wrecked to of Mick's foot units as well as mauling one of Phil's cavalry Regiments, despite having suffered 70% casualties they are still firmly in control of the village. On each flank, both Mick and Phil are having considerable success with their cavalry - UT at the moment Phil/Mick are fast approaching a withdrawal check, just 7 casualties to go !
Tune in next week for the final evening of the game to see how it went
20th of November
We finished the game, both sides went for it trying to force the all important withdrawal check ; Mick/Phil had to roll on all 3 of the last turns and despite needing to roll under 12 on 4 dice twice they managed to hold on and claim an honorable draw.
A great game, that has inspired us to consider it being the first of our planned campaigns for next year.
