Night 1 - December 12th
A small action that sees 6 brigades of French foot supported by artillery and guns attacking a small British/Spanish force. The allies have a the problem of space to deploy firing lines whereas the French have come on in 'massed' columns.
So far the French are progressing well, the Spanish flank is under great pressure with the only decent unit rolling a low ammo result just as two French columns struck, plus one of the militia units 'skulking' behind the hedges has had a rough handling. Heaven help them if a brigade test is needed.
On the right 'The Baron' is finding it tough going against the fast paced Fench assualts
However in the centre things still look comfortable for the allies, the redoubt which is the objective of the game seems secure so far.
Night 2 - December 19th
We wrapped the game up last night, the initial moves were suggesting a recovery for the allies as both flanks stabilized and a French brigade broke in front of the Spanish giving time for British reinforcements to deploy. However it didn't last for long as the French came on again with fresh troops completely breaking the Spanish and ripping the allied right apart. It all seemed to boil down to a failed allied cavalry charge (Missed it by 1 pip) and a successful French light cavalry charge. The centre was about to collapse as we called a halt to give the French players the winners medal !
It was great to get back to the game to see if the early wins could be turned into a victory, moving forward we plan to give each game a provisional 3 night outing.
More Pics from night 2 added to the gallery below (and I will start to try and add some comments to them going forward)
