Battle of Kulm - the 1st Day
Night 1 : 3rd April
A great opening has seen the French get over the shock of a strong Russian presence, not the weak rear guard they expected, and are coming on the same old style.
Heavy casualties for isolated battalions at the moment with no real advantage for either side.
Night 2 : 10th of April
The Russian players felt they had the upper hand, Russian Dragoons 'hacked' 2 French infantry battalions to ribbons and 2 assaults on the village of Priesten have been repulsed along with an attempted charge on 1 of the six gun battery's .... However the French have responded by severely damaging the Russian guards brigade (forcing a brigade check) and in the centre a lucky shot has taken one of the Russian brigade commanders out.
Both sides have got mounting casualties and what will be critical is the deployment of reserves.
Night 3 : 17th of April
Just 2 turns played, but they were big ones with lots of morale testing. The French left has had it's initial attack bluntedwith the leading brigade seeing 4 of it's units retire in rout or retreat.
The centre continues to be dominated by Russian cavalry looking at strong French squares, although over on the Russian left the brave lancers have has success and rallied on the spot.
One big push by the Russians might see them take the French held village and put them in a commanding position, although there is probably one more big push on the French left.
Next will see the last game of the battle ..... who will tip it ??
Night 4 : 24th of April
Just the hardened 4 Cobs for the last evening ....
Both sides had regrouped for the final push, but neither could make headway and the villages remained in the original garrisons possession thus rendering the game a draw.
The Russian guard was taking some damage but would probably have cracked the French right had time allowed. On the left the Frnch still had troops but were in no position to continue with the assault. In the centre, perhaps the Russians had the strength but not the time to mount an assault on Kulm itself.
An honourable draw .... Great game chaps
