Random AWI Game
Night 1 : 8th of May 2018
A random game which sees 4 Brigades of British/Hessians trying to silence a 32lb American (French, actually) battery which is situated on hill that dominates the field and road junction.
Defending are two American Brigades, one which is good quality and the second which is poor State line. Unbeknown to the allies is that a Brigade of Militia are force marching along the river bank on their right, if this force can make it will see the allies with their right rear under pressure.
5 turns played, the militia are arriving double smart but the allies are making steady progress in the centre.
Night 2 : 15th of May 2018
The battle has really opened up, the Americans have done well to get the Militia brigade across the ford, deployed and new orders issued ; However despite heavy losses the allied central Hessian units have got into action in the centre.
On the allied left the Hessians in the church, despite initial setbacks, are causing grief to Sherborn's continentals. Over on the right it looks good for the British.
Night 3 : 22nd of May
The encounter drew to a close with a costly victory for the Allies. The American left was stalemate, with the 'flying' militia column making no headway at all, in the centre the Hessians finally collapsed but had done the job of pinning the American units thus preventing them from stopping the British onslaught on the right.
A great game, a reminder as to how good both the period and rules (British Grenadier) are.
