Battle of Barossa
Night 3 (9th of April 19)
All cation from the start, on the allied left a regiment of British lights almost broke a French square ! On the allied left the British brigade was discriminated from heavy French battery fire and in the center the Spanish just kept rolling along.
The game finished as an allied victory, with both roads to Cadiz still open and the French division on the right withdrawing leaving the advancing units of the left unsupported and thus obliged to withdraw as well.
A great game, reminding us all of just how much the Peninsular battles seem to differ to the European.
Night 2 (2nd of April 19)
Well the French generals were confident, heavy cavalry deploying in the center to threaten the Spanish foot and a strong looking right.
Two turns played and the allies hit the sweetspot together !
First the Portuguese cavalry broke a French line on their left, which led to a Brigade check that was failed. Then the British guns put in a shift on to the French left, killing a brigade commander, destroying a foot unit and causing brigade checks (Which the French held).
Then the Spanish militia light dragoons arrived, cheers from the infantry, who duly sprinted forward and charged the French heavy dragoons. You expected it, but no, the Spanish won leaving the French to Turn and Flee. The 2nd French dragoon regiment (Elites to boot) charged the lead Spanish foot battalion, who rolled for it's class, yep Militia, and volley range, yep long. The result was astonishing as the Dragoons failed to break through and are returning to their own lines.
The French center is now in disarray BUT the British on the left have been bombarded and may well break which will leave their flank exposed to 5 fresh French battalions !
All to play for next week
Night 1 (26th March 19)
The allies are fast moving to try and raise the siege of Cadiz, when out of the blue 2 French divisions with Cavalry support appear on their right rear. They turn to face the threat and send desperate messages to the Spanish further down the coast.
Set up and three turns played has seen the British shake out of March columns to face the French threat, and surprisingly a Brigade of Spanish foot and cavalry have quickly answered the call. The French have had early success with a British foot battery wiped out and some good long range artillery shots. both sides have had cavalry charges repulsed with heavy losses. The French dragoons are threatening as of yet unknown quality of the Spanish.
Hotting up for quite a set to.
